WALLFLOWER - A POEM BY A.H. SCOTT

Wallflower

against the wall, she slumps and waits
high school dance passes her by
giggling girls and boys fumble on the gym floor
music of the eighties whizzes by
one slow dance
heatwave's always and forever plays
she clings to the wall, for no one asks her for that slow dance
lights dim to a slight hue of maroon
she taps her fingers against the wall alone
next to her are a few other flowers who were ignored and passed over

too tall
too short
too busty
too chubby
too ugly
too flat
too awkward
2 four eyes

final notes of forever sung by that singer
she sighs and holds palm to wall silently
wallflower withers
wallflower dithers

flower in bloom
another chance at the dance
always and forever plays at a night spot
triggers the memory of who she used to be
yet, now this wallflower's petals are flowing free
she doesn't have to wait
although she thought it may have been too late
not the wallflower any more

Rose has blossomed and bastes in the rays of delight
Wallflowers should never wait for the magic man who shall never be in sight
Florists of longing massages her vine and makes the petals bristle to life

Always and forever is a song that
fills her ears
But, in the end, the rose's pride has flourished in what she's learned through the years

Wallflowers unite and let the bouquet of your soul's tranquility take flight
Be your own flower of fantasy

Bees flitter around the rose once again.....
