Flittering
Romance doesn’t mean forever
Maybe not even a day
Romance can be a single touch
Or a moment we never let slip away
Younger, none of us are getting
Seconds pass and chances are fleeting
Man and woman
Two people along exploration’s highway
Uncomplicated by external impositions
Just in the moment
She took a chance
He took a chance
Bodies imperfect
Perfect coupling of thoughts and desires came
She not a youthful beauty who had crowd cheers
He not a brash swashbuckler of decades ago
But, youth wasn’t what either craved
Hunger for intelligence and challenge drew each to the other
Emotional ecstasy far outweighed orgasms
Cradling one another, each were butterflies
He not holding onto her too tightly
I won’t pretend gallantry and a grand play for her
She not trying to strangle his virility
I won’t be blind to thinking a solo swan has his eye
Acknowledge without amends
You have your life and I have mine
Both of us know now is the time
Butterfly flittering at fingertip
Smile comes and I blow a kiss
Maturity is the restraint of envy
Freeing you, was freeing me
Too brief may make it sound like sorrow
Sorrow would have been not taking your hand
Never forgetting the sweetest memories are those unplanned….
